Founder and Director, Joseph Duffy, grew up as a hands-on child on a Gunnedah farm where he found a passion for building early on while watching his family’s own renovations. In his adolescent years, he proudly boarded at St Joseph’s College in Sydney as a fifth-generation alumnus where he continued to build his ambition to be a builder.
Finishing his schooling career, Joe returned to the family farm to begin his carpentry apprenticeship with a local builder, where he later met his now wife and business partner, Claire Sheridan. Always entrepreneurial-minded, Claire studied Civil Engineering at the University of Newcastle with the ambition of building her own business one day.
Their passions only grew when they travelled to Canada for a year where Joe worked as a carpenter and Claire a residential painter. Inspired by Canadian culture and beautiful mountain homes, they returned to Australia to further their experience with some of Newcastle’s top builders and engineers. They then focused on Joe becoming an independent builder with the goal of starting their own company, MAVA Building.
The name MAVA comes from our children, Malakai and Eva, and it fuels our passion and focus on providing a holistic, personalised, and wholesome service. At MAVA Building, we thrive on developing and sustaining strong working relationships with our clients and their families, always striving to offer flexibility and a personable touch in everything we do.
